Cross Country News
As the leaves start falling from the trees, thoughts quickly turn to cold, muddy fields and the joys of cross country racing. The 2024 season is now well underway with the Sussex AA Relays and the Sussex XC League Round 1 taking place this month.
The relays took place in mostly fast and dry conditions, with Harriers entering teams across junior, senior and veteran age groups.
Our Senior teams had a successful day, taking 1st place in the Womens category, with team members Leah Saunders, Lillie Hellyer and Laila Hellyer becoming Sussex County Champions!
Martin Footman, Evert Baker, Andy Born and Mike Skinner took 3rd place in the V40 Mens category, with Evert bravely offering to step up from the V60 category for the day!
In the Juniors, Riley Ayre took 2nd place under 11 boys.
Round 1 of the Sussex cross country league returned to Goodwood a fortnight later with more traditional conditions. The spikes were back out along with the cold, rain and mud.
Alice Robinson took first place in V35 women category and 9th overall. In the league competition the Senior Men team were top scorers in Division 2 and second in V35-50 category.
Riley Ayre again took 2nd place under 11 boys, well done Riley!

Another great WSFRL for Harriers in the Great Walstead 5, holding onto our second place in the league.
Alice Robinson grabbed another win and many others scored well on what many described as a XC course in disguise.
Next week is our home event at Wyndlesham, please turn out to volunteer if you can!
Thanks Haywards Heath Harriers for a great race!

Vitality London 10K
Some great results for Harriers running in the Vitality London 10K this weekend, joining fifteen thousand others on a course that took in the sights of central London to finish outside Buckingham Palace.
Neil Hutchison @the_runderful_everyday showed no signs of slowing down with old age, running a new PB of 34:26, placing him a very impressive 81st overall male and 10th V40.
Andy Born, Mike Skinner and Sarah Green also completed the race for Team Green, with Andy (36:49) and Mike (38:56) both also getting new PBs.
Team Spells were also all up in town for the event, with Andrew Spells managing to keep up with Georgia as she finished her first ever 10k. She was also the second youngest entrant at 15 and two days, an amazing achievement!
